Last week, I held an Adjournment debate on the future of the Urgent Care Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital.
The campaign opposing the closure has gained widespread support, and I am grateful to parliamentary colleagues who attended the debate to speak on behalf of their constituents.
On such local matters, working together for the benefit of the communities we were elected to represent should supersede party politics. This has been a long-standing commitment in Hillingdon, and I am grateful to John McDonnell for continuing to honour this.
It is regrettable that Danny Beales, the Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, has not got behind the campaign. In fact, he described the petition - the most effective mechanism to allow the voices of his constituents to be heard – as ‘faux outrage’ which he said was 'both laughable and offensive'. During the debate, he used an intervention on the Minister for Secondary Care to distance himself from these remarks, claiming that he had been misquoted. However, this was direct quote from My London news (July 17), and I raised a Point of Order this afternoon to ensure this is on the record.
The Member also used an intervention to politicise the issue, peddling out well-worn rhetoric that had very little to do with the issue at hand. This is not speaking up for local people and residents deserve better.
