Prior to Parliament entering recess for Easter, I was disappointed that the Government failed to grapple with the impact of the conflict in Iran.
The Government failed to introduce sensible measures put forward by the Opposition to keep the cost of living in check. In contrast, Hillingdon and Harrow have been doing their utmost to keep costs low. I am delighted that Hillingdon has the lowest council tax in Northwest London while maintaining excellent local services, and Harrow’s free hour parking continues to get good feedback from residents.
Last month, I wrote about two important issues affecting Northwood and Pinner. This was the plan to relocate the Cancer Centre at Mount Vernon and to close Pinner’s Police Station’s front desk.
I know that the NHS is continuing its plans to move the Cancer Centre at Mount Vernon to Watford General. As I outlined previously, there are still many questions to be answered before a move can happen. The most obvious flaw in the proposals is the lack of capacity at Watford General, and perhaps more worrying for my residents is the future of vital cancer services in the community.
Since my last column, I have written to Sir Mark Rowley regarding the closure of Pinner Police Station’s front desk. Following last month’s disappointing response from the Deputy Mayor responsible, I raised this directly with the Met Commissioner in the hope he may be more helpful.
Finally, it would be remiss of me not to remind readers that at the end of April, I will be running the London marathon, and I am proud to be fundraising for Michael Sobell House in Northwood. All contributions will be gratefully received in support of this valued local charity.
