Following news of its possible closure on social media, I have been concerned about the future of the Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner Service at Mount Vernon Hospital.
This is highly valued across Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, evidenced by how many stories have been shared by residents about how it has been a lifeline for themselves or loved ones, and I add my own personal experience to these many accounts. Having received treatment for a minor injury at Mount Vernon, rather than take up valuable space at overstretched A&E departments, I know first-hand the value the service adds to those needing urgent, non-emergency care.
While I am pleased to have gained assurances from Lesley Watts CBE, the Chief Executive of the Hillingdon Hospitals Trust, that there are no plans for immediate closure, I am concerned about the review of services that is underway across the trust and what it might mean for the future of the urgent care facility.
I have been crystal clear that no decision should be taken without the consultation of staff and the local community, and so I continue to encourage residents to sign the ‘Save Mount Vernon’s Urgent Care Service’ petition. With over 11,500 signatures reached in less than two weeks, it is a robust demonstration of local support and residents’ voices. I have also written to the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, to ask for the Government’s support to safeguard the future of this vital local facility. Updates can be followed on my website, social media channels and monthly newsletter.
In more encouraging news, following a campaign dating back to the tenures of both my predecessors, significant developments have been underway at the Northwood and Pinner Cottage Hospital site. This is a long-awaited project, and I am delighted that considerable progress is being made to deliver this much-needed healthcare hub. I will be attending a ground breaking ceremony this month, and I look forward to representing residents at this event.
Lastly, I have completed my third London Marathon and am delighted to have raised [amount] for Prostate Cancer UK. Thank you to all the residents and colleagues who have supported me.
It was a pleasure to attend the ground breaking ceremony at the Northwood and Pinner Cottage Hospital site this morning.
Following many years of campaigning - dating back to the tenures of both my predecessors - significant developments are now underway for the building of the new health centre, and I am delighted this milestone has at last been reached.
Given how long it has taken to reach an agreement for the use of the site, which I am pleased has the approval of Hillingdon Council and the community, I know that residents will welcome the considerable progress towards delivering this much-needed healthcare hub
Also in attendance were representatives from NHS Property Services, the Department of Health and Social Care and the North West London Integrated Care Board.
I am grateful for the invitation, and I look forward to following developments closely.
