Completing a fourth London Marathon is no small feat, and this year’s run carried particular local significance. Finishing in 6 hours, 35 minutes and 5 seconds, the effort was dedicated to raising funds for Michael Sobell Hospice in Northwood, a charity, which I know, is held in high regard across our community.
Having previously supported a mix of local and national causes, this year’s focus followed conversations with residents who spoke of the hospice’s vital role in supporting those with serious or terminal illness, as well as their families. A visit earlier in the year offered a first-hand look at the compassionate care provided by staff, reinforcing just how essential these services are.
Encouragingly, awareness of the hospice extended beyond the community, with fellow runners along the marathon route recognising its impact. Thanks to the generosity of supporters, £1,730 was raise. These are crucial funds that will contribute to sustaining the hospice’s invaluable work in the community.
With local elections approaching, residents will soon have the opportunity to shape the future of services in their area. Contrary to what other political parties might suggest, these local elections will not shape foreign policy in the middle east, or end the myriad of crises that this Labour government is presiding over domestically, but rather a chance to vote for the effective governance of local services.
