Many constituents will have been paying close attention to the collapse of Sir Keir Starmer’s government over recent weeks.
After the Makerfield by-election, it was only a matter of time before Sir Keir Starmer announced his intention to resign. This only came about because of the relentless pressure brought about by Kemi Badenoch, who uncovered the extent of Sir Keir Starmer’s failures.
From withdrawing the winter fuel allowance from vulnerable pensioners to the appointment of Lord Peter Mandelson, it is clear that the Prime Minister was unfit to lead the country. His departure came after he let his MPs undermine our nation’s defence while pursuing ever higher welfare bills.
The failure of the Prime Minister to fund our armed forces left us weak in an increasingly unstable world, and it is clear from recent election results that the British people did not want him to stay. In contrast, Kemi and the Conservatives continue to prove that they have a plan to cut the welfare bill and increase defence spending.
With Andy Burnham set to become Prime Minister, I am concerned that much of his focus will remain on his parochial projects while London is ignored.
Closer to home, the threat of development at Northwood Station remains on the mind of local residents. Residents will know that the Mayor of London and TfL have proposed the redevelopment of TfL land surrounding the station.
Residents will remember that TfL remains committed to its disastrous plans to build new tower blocks on the site. Plans proposed in 2019, suggested that 250 flats could be built along Green Lane, Station Approach and on the existing car park.
These plans were deeply inappropriate and would have forever altered the look of the town centre. Despite local feedback, TfL have not abandoned these schemes.
