Nationality and Borders Bill

Wednesday, 20 April, 2022

This evening, the Nationality and Borders Bill continued its passage through the House of Commons as we considered amendments proposed by the House of Lords. While the debate was heavily oversubscribed, I had the pleasure of intervening during the speech of my colleague Andrew Mitchell.

In my brief intervention, I was able to outline my hope that the Government is successful as we look to create broader, safer and legal routes for asylum seekers to enter the UK. Under current proposals, I fear that individuals will be unable to access the most appropriate route to enter the UK for a variety of reasons.

It was a real pleasure to visit the wonderful family-run Church Gardens in Harefield this week, alongside my excellent colleague Simon Baynes.
