Residents have been in contact to share their concerns following NatWest’s announcement that the branch on Field End Road will be closing in May.
I know that residents and businesses rely on high street banking for things like cash transactions, but it is also really important to many customers to be able to speak with someone in-person and have their issues dealt with in-branch.
While NatWest has provided ‘other ways to bank’, I recognise these may not be practical alternatives for everyone. This is particularly pertinent to those unable to travel to other branches, or those who may be worried about – or find it challenging to use – internet or telephone banking.
Furthermore, at the very least, the impact of the closure must be mitigated. At the moment, the closest NatWest banking hub is in West Drayton, which is not supported by good transport links from Eastcote.
All bank openings and closures are commercial decisions for firms, and so I have written to Mike Crow, Director of Public Policy at NatWest, to raise residents’ concerns. I have asked for assurances that the full impact of the closure has been considered and should it go ahead, for a commitment to retain access to cash and banking services.
This letter can be read below. I will of course keep residents updated on any response.
