PMQs: Mount Vernon Hospital - Ministerial Response

PMQ

In April, I challenged the Prime Minister on the future of Mount Vernon Hospital.

Following the closure of the urgent care centre last year and proposals to move the cancer centre to Watford General, residents are understandably concerned about the future of the site and want to see it protected.

Almost two months later, I have received a letter from Health Minister Karin Smyth, which appears to follow the same reticent pattern as previous communications. The response predictably absolves her and the Department of any responsibility, instead delegating it all to the NHS.

Of course, this is hardly surprising given the lack of government engagement and accountability prior to the urgent care centre last year, despite overwhelming support for the campaign to keep it open.

I want to see local services protected, and I will work hard on behalf of my constituents to secure this commitment.

You can read a copy of Karin Smyth's letter below.

Protecting Mount Vernon Hospital

Like many residents, I have been concerned by the information circulating about the possible closure of the Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner Service at Mount Vernon Hospital.

Many constituents will have been paying close attention to the collapse of Sir Keir Starmer’s government over recent weeks. After the Makerfield by-election, it was only a matter of time before Sir Keir Starmer announced his intention to resign.
