In April, I challenged the Prime Minister on the future of Mount Vernon Hospital.
Following the closure of the urgent care centre last year and proposals to move the cancer centre to Watford General, residents are understandably concerned about the future of the site and want to see it protected.
Almost two months later, I have received a letter from Health Minister Karin Smyth, which appears to follow the same reticent pattern as previous communications. The response predictably absolves her and the Department of any responsibility, instead delegating it all to the NHS.
Of course, this is hardly surprising given the lack of government engagement and accountability prior to the urgent care centre last year, despite overwhelming support for the campaign to keep it open.
I want to see local services protected, and I will work hard on behalf of my constituents to secure this commitment.
