Residents have been in contact with my office to raise concerns about the rumoured closure of the Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner Service at Mount Vernon Hospital. As MP, I am usually kept up to date on these matters, but this was the first my office had heard of any such proposals.
This afternoon, I spoke with the Chief Executive of the Hillingdon Hospitals Trust, Lesley Watts CBE, who has assured me that no decision has been taken on the future of the Urgent Care Service at Mount Vernon Hospital. This means that no proposals to either close or move the facility have been made.
However, services across Mount Vernon and the Hillingdon Hospitals Trust are under review, and I remain concerned about the impact of reorganisation on the current arrangement. I was clear in my conversation with Lesley Watts that no decision should be taken forward without the consultation of both staff and the local community.
I add my own personal experience to the many stories residents have shared about why this service has been vital either for themselves or loved ones. Having received treatment for a minor injury at Mount Vernon, rather than take up valuable space at A&E, I know first-hand the value the service adds to those needing urgent, non-emergency care. What has also stood out from the many accounts is the fantastic care patients receive at this facility.
It is imperative that we retain the Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner Service. With all services under review, I encourage residents to make their voices heard and sign the petition here.
