I have today received a response from the Department of Work and Pensions regarding the future of the Winter Fuel Payment Scheme. Residents will know that I had originally written directly to the Chancellor in an attempt to put across their concerns.
It is therefore deeply disappointing, but not surprising, that the Chancellor has decided to hide behind a different department rather than face up to the dangerous implications of her decisions. I am under no illusion that the Chancellor will seek to force through this harmful policy in her budget later in October despite the cross-party campaign.
Many constituents have continued to write to me in regard to this campaign and each letter received only strengthens my opposition to the Government’s plans.
