As a member of the Dogs Trust’s parliamentary Puppy Smuggling Taskforce, I am pleased to have signed a cross-party letter to the Rt Hon Lord Zac Goldsmith (Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs), calling on the Government to take urgent action to stop the illegal importation of dogs into the UK.
I am encouraged that the Government is already engaged with this issue, with the end of the transition period creating opportunity to help crack down on puppy smuggling. However, I am sure we can all agree that more can and must be done in order to stop this abhorrent trade and to prevent the suffering of smuggled dogs.
I look forward to receiving the Government's response about what action they will take to introduce legislation that will put a stop to the illegal importation of dogs into Great Britain.
