It was a pleasure to visit Dogs Trust in Harefield once again this morning and to meet not only the lovely dogs, but also the dedicated staff who take care of them and work incredibly hard to find them new homes.

Following my visit to the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Harefield in May, I wrote to Andrew Stephenson, Minister of State for Transport, about the adverse effects caused by the nearby construction of HS2.

I am delighted to have joined the parliamentary Puppy Smuggling Taskforce and support Dogs Trust in their efforts to raise awareness of and tackle the abhorrent puppy smuggling trade. I echo their calls for the Government to stop the illegal importation of puppies into the UK.

There is no place in this country for animal cruelty, and we must ensure that those who abuse animals are met with the full force of the law. That is why I am proud to support Chris Loder MP's Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill, which has its second reading in Parliament today.

It was a pleasure to visit the Dogs Trust rehoming centre in Harefield last week and especially to meet Honey the Greyhound. It was fantastic to see the wonderful efforts of staff at the rehoming centre who work so tirelessly to ensure that all of the dogs in their care are incredibly well looked after and was very impressed by the huge range of facilities available to their canine residents.
